Problem

AI Cloud Academy is an interactive e-learning platform delivering 37 cloud and AI engineering courses with modular video lessons, hands-on lab exercises, automated assessments, gamified XP progression, and completion certificates. Blocker bugs in navigation, progression gating, or assessment scoring directly stall student completion and platform credibility.

The curriculum and learning platform required comprehensive QA across user experience, video content, and gamification logic prior to major release.

Context

Quality Assurance Lead conducting multi-round functional, curricular, and cross-device testing across 37 cloud courses and learning management workflows.

My Role

Quality Assurance Lead: authored cross-device test suites, tested lesson progression and gamification state machines, audited course video and audio assets, and verified defect fixes through retesting.

Architecture & Coverage Scope

Testing spanned 5 QA rounds across 37 full courses, auditing functional platform components alongside curricular content:

  • •Lesson Player & Navigation: Video playback, speed controls, chapter navigation, and mobile viewports
  • •Progress Tracking & Persistence: Completion tracking, state synchronization, and resume-playback bookmarks
  • •Gamification & XP Engine: Milestone XP allocation, streak tracking, and leaderboard triggers
  • •Certificates & Assessments: Exercise evaluation, grade calculation, and credential generation
  • •Content & Media: Video clarity, audio balance, slide typos, and instructional clarity

Reliability & Key Findings

Testing documented 80+ defects (85 logged entries, 69 unique defects) across 5 QA rounds and 37 courses, alongside 68 actionable video-content recommendations. Retesting verified and closed 41 fixes.

Defect classification by type recorded:

  • •Functional defects (20): Navigation blockers, broken form inputs, and state sync drops.
  • •Content / Video defects (19): Video cut-offs, slide inaccuracies, and code snippet mismatches.
  • •UX / UI defects (17): Layout clipping, responsive viewport breakages, and unreadable labels.
  • •Data & progress tracking (12): Course completion percentages desyncing from completed lessons.
  • •Media & audio issues (6): Audio clipping, out-of-sync voiceovers, and missing transcripts.
  • •Logic & calculation (3): Scoring calculation inconsistencies and grade thresholds.
  • •Interactive elements (3): Quiz submit buttons and lab reset actions.

Critical findings uncovered during testing included:

  • •Mobile progression blockers: Mobile users on smaller viewports were completely unable to navigate between lessons or trigger course progression.
  • •Rapid-click lesson locking: Rapid clicks on navigation buttons caused the lesson player state to lock permanently, requiring a hard browser refresh.
  • •Gamification XP exploit: Header XP counters over-awarded points on rapid repeated clicks, allowing users to artificially inflate user levels without completing coursework.
  • •Certificate generation failures: Students completing 100% of course requirements were blocked from receiving level completion certificates due to an unhandled status gate.
  • •Blank submission false-positives: Assessment submission endpoints awarded positive feedback and passing marks on completely empty answer submissions.

Results & Impact

  • •80+ defects documented across 5 QA rounds and 37 courses (85 entries, 69 unique)
  • •41 fixes verified and closed after systematic retesting
  • •68 video-content and curricular improvements integrated across course modules
  • •Fixed mobile navigation blockers, patched the gamification XP exploit, and restored automated certificate delivery
